Minister of Trade and Industry, Ryad Mezzour, revealed that “e-commerce has witnessed significant growth in recent years in Morocco, with its turnover reaching 22 billion dirhams (2200 billion centimes) in 2023, noting that “the annual increase in its turnover over the past five years has reached 30 percent annually.”
Mezzour explained in the oral questions session today, Tuesday, at the Council of Advisors, that “the e-commerce process is framed and accompanied by an old and new legal arsenal, through the Consumer Protection Law, which in turn has seen developments, while there is a new draft law that has been sent to the General Secretariat of the Government in anticipation of its approval.”
The government official confirmed that “currently, this type of trade is accompanied by the Law on the Safety of Goods, Products and Services, in addition to the Law on Legal Performance, the Law on the Protection of Personal Data, the Law on Electronic Security, and the Law on Trust Services and Electronic Transactions.”
Minister Mazour stressed that “Morocco faces many challenges, including the right to resort to the judiciary in the event of a defect in the product, which is what we are working on in the new draft law.”
